CanLoft, magnetic can hangers for wire and solid shelves
Regular price$29.99 USDSale price$14.99 USD
CanLoft hangers are cool 'gadgets' that allow for magnetic suspension of cans (steel/tin cans... not aluminum) to...
Save space and help organize...
There are two versions... one for wire shelving that simply clips into place, and one for solid shelves that screws into place.
1) CanLoft...helps utilize all of your available space. Most kitchen & pantry shelves are 12-16 inches apart... most cans are only 4-5 inches tall.
2) CanLoft...helps organize to make things easier to find. If you always place specific cans on your Lofts... you can easily tell how many you have in a glance.
3) CanLoft...because magnetically suspending cans is just plain cool (and everybody loves magnets!)
Back when I did my BottleLoft Kickstarter project, I had several people ask if it would work on beer cans. As most beer cans are aluminum... the answer was no as magnets do not attract to aluminum... only ferrous metal.
But, those requests triggered an idea to make a product for tin cans... I filled that away to be explored later.
CanLoft is my favorite type of project to work on. It's more of a 'nothing to something' project. There's simply nothing like it out there... no product on the market for hanging cans. This is in contrast to a 'something to something else' project... where I'm simply making a version or improvement to an existing project.
To start, my first inclination was to use the BottleLoft magnet assembly and adapt the plastic holder to work with various shelves. However the first prototypes showed that while the BottleLoft magnet is very (crazy) strong... a single central magnet was not the most stable arrangement for most cans as they tended to attach off center and be prone to pivoting off of the magnet. Simply making the magnet diameter bigger and bigger was not practical from a cost and safety standpoint.
After several iterations and testing, I landed on 4 magnets arranged so that they were spread out. Having magnets closer to the perimeter of the can really increases the stability of the suspended can. You can see some of the prototyping work that was done up in the 'Prototype Gallery' section of this project page.
The magnets are 'permanent' Neodymium Iron Boron magnets (the strong kind), so your Canlofts will never lose their strength, wear out, or become obsolete. They'll essentially last forever.
I'm quite happy with the final designs and have sought to protect my work via a patent which has been submitted and is pending. I've had a lot of trouble with copycats on BottleLoft (patent not yet issued)... so hopefully having early patent work done on CanLoft will speed the process along.
CanLoft is a unique product... there's nothing like it out there. Maybe that's great and lots of people will be interested... or maybe not. Using Kickstarter to launch a new product is a great way to find out, so let's hope there's good interest!
So... that's where you wonderful backers come in... I'd certainly appreciate your support!
